Summary |
|
This workshop is designed for Disability Management
Professionals, Return to Work Coordinators, and allied health
professionals who are familiar with and experienced in worksite-based
disability management programs. |
|
The workshop activities are designed to encourage networking among
participants in order to learn about and share effective strategies,
valuable resources and enlightening experiences. The program will
feature interactive structured small group experiences, using case
studies and simulated activities to stimulate creative problem-solving.
Workshop activities will include presentations regarding best practices
and benchmarks, based on state-of-the art disability management
research, cutting-edge strategies and current trends. |

Participants will be provided with workshop materials
including simulated group exercises, hard copies of PowerPoint slides,
supplemental readings, and other resource information.

Following participation in
the conference, you will be able to: |

Learn about conducting a benchmarking audit, which
incorporates an assessment and strategic planning process to
establish a foundation for disability management program development,

Learn about "cutting edge" disability
management program models and proactive return to work strategies,
including effective practices among workshop participants,

Understand the impact of labor relations issues on
return to work program development and how to establish joint
labor-management committees and disability management initiatives,

Participate in problem-solving activities to
identify creative solutions to return to work program development
barriers,

Learn about a structured process to develop and
implement return to work and remain at work programs,

Faculty |
|
Dr. Shrey is President of Advanced Transitions, Inc.,
an international consulting business, specializing in disability
management audits and strategic planning, and the development of
successful return to work programs. He is a pioneer in the development
of employer-based transitional work programs and integrated disability
management systems. Since 1997, Dr. Shrey has managed the integrated
Return to Work Program for the City of Cincinnati. He has been Associate
Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at
the University of Cincinnati Medical Center since 1987, and has recently
been jointly appointed as Adjunct Research Associate Professor in the
Department of Industrial Engineering.
Dr. Shrey served as a Tenured Associate Professor for
the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling at Boston University from
1976-1984, and taught in the graduate school of Syracuse University,
where he earned his doctorate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. His
career has included work as a psychologist and as a Certified
Rehabilitation Counselor. He has consulted with industry, labor,
workers' compensation boards, health care providers, insurance
companies, and government in the United States and abroad. He has been a
World Rehabilitation Fellow and World Institute on Disability Fellow,
and provided training and consultation in the United States, Australia,
New Zealand, Egypt, Israel, the Netherlands, Ireland, England, and
Canada. He has been a Vocational Expert for the Social Security
Administration in the U.S. since 1977. He has served as a disability
management program consultant to Weyerhaeuser, Canadian Broadcasting
Corporation, the City of Lethbridge in Alberta, Honda, Toyota, General
Electric Aircraft Engines, Campbells, Schneider Trucking, TS Trim,
Minster Machine Company, MacMillan-Bloedel, the City of Cincinnati and
City of Oregon in Ohio, Drake Center, Boeing, National Steel
Corporation, and many other employers.
